Lessons from St Francis of Asis

Today I was moved to read the story of St Francis of Asis.Here is what i observed and learnt.

Observation
1.St Francis of Asis took the Word of God literally i.e—not in a narrow fundamentalist sense, but by actually following all that Jesus said and did, joyfully, without limit and without a sense of self-importance. 

2.He was told by Christ ,"Francis, go out and build up my house, for it is nearly falling down." Francis became the totally poor and humble workman. 
He gave up all his possessions.
He was, for a time, considered to be a religious fanatic, begging from door to door when he could not get money for his work, evokng sadness or disgust to the hearts of his former friends, ridicule from the unthinking.

3.During the last years of his relatively short life (he died at 44), he was half blind and seriously ill.
4.Two years before his death, he received the stigmata, the real and painful wounds of Christ in his hands, feet and side.

5.On his deathbed, he said over and over again the last addition to his Canticle of the Sun, "Be praised, O Lord, for our Sister Death." He sang Psalm 141, and at the end asked his superior to have his clothes removed when the last hour came and for permission to expire lying naked on the earth, in imitation of his Lord.
 
Lessons
i)The Grace of God can enable us to do things we would never have done by ourselves;good and great things.
ii)To have genuine faith in God and be willing to do just what the Lord says in his Word without minding much of what others are saying or thinking of you.
iii)When he was told to go and build the Church,it had a deeper meaning so we all need to be praying and asking God to show us ways and how he actually wants us to serve him.

iv)As believers we can sometimes be faced with physical illnesses and pains of which God allows for his own good and meaningful reasons.
v)To be persistence in prayer (with praise and thanksgiving) even when in deep troubles and pains as he continued to pray regulary the 141 Psalms and the praises he sang.
vi)To be humble always and guide our mouth especially when we pass through great troubles and pains and sorrows.(Ps 141)

Prayer:
Lord,now I can somehow see why at sometime you gave us St Francis of Asis as our Patron for the ministry you have given us.You have called us to rebuild broken walls while following your Word.Help us to do your will always,in Jesus Name,Amen.

Advice-Caught up

Phil 4:8
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things".

The above scripture caught me when i wanted to revenge on something someone has been doing to me that was not very pleasing.Thank you Lord for you have sent your word to heal us and show us a way.

Misled


Mk 12:24 
Jesus said to them, “Are you not misled
because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?"

Lessons
I was glad to know that we are misled or get lost  because we DO NOT KNOW THE SCRIPTURES or THE POWER OF GOD

Prayer
May the Lord God,help us by his Holy  Spirit so that we can know the Scriptures by hearing,reading,meditating and working on them so that we can never be misled or get lost in Jesus Name,Amen.

Seeking Advice

Watch out when one offers advice;find out first of all what he wants.
For he also may be thinking of himself—Why should the opportunity fall to him?
He may tell you how good your way will be,and then stand by to see you impoverished.

When you want to get advice see what

Sir 37:7-15  say

Do not ask for an advice on someone who envies you!
Seek no advice from a woman about her rival,
from a coward about war,from a merchant about business,
from a buyer about value,from a miser about generosity,
from a cruel person about well-being,from a worthless worker about his work,
from a seasonal laborer about the harvest,from an idle slave about a great task—,and the like;
pay no attention to any advice they give,since they will give you what they have(which is not worthy since they are not good at the things you ask )and not what you want

Instead,
1.associate with a religious person,
who you know keeps the commandments;
Who is like-minded with yourself
and will grieve for you if you fall.
2.Then, too, heed your own heart’s counsel;
for there is nothing you can depend on more.
The heart can reveal your situation
better than seven sentinels on a tower.
3.Then with all this, pray to God
to make your steps firm in the true path.

The Power of Temptation

Did you know that the Power of temptation rests on the deceptive promise that sin will bring more satisfaction than living for God?

If you didnt know,get it then cause that is what it is!

The really thruth is that:
It is only God’s way that can satisfy us.

See what God says in :

 Psalm 16:11, “You show me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy, in your right hand are pleasures for evermore.”

We all desire happiness, but sin and happiness cannot live together. Sin is a counterfeit of happiness that brings with it shame and regret. On the other hand, sacrificial love brings true joy, and a life of virtue brings happiness. Try it and see.

May God bless us as we take that challenge of always finding joy in God by commiting our lives to him always for that is  the only place we can actually get that true joy and happiness.

You are designated!

Acts 22:14-15
14 Then he said, ‘The God of our ancestors designated you to know his will, to see the Righteous One, and to hear the sound of his voice; 15 for you will be his witness before all to what you have seen and heard.

Observations
When I read the above part of the Scripture I discovered something beautiful,that since I am told to be God's witness throughout the world (Acts 1:6-8)so it is also true that God has designated me to know his will to hear  him speak and see him.That is very consoling to me,to know that designation!

It then tells us what we should do when we get to know that we are designated to know God' will

Now, why delay? Get up and have yourself baptized and your sins washed away, calling upon his name.’  Acts 22:16


Its a call then to everyone who believe in Jesus,to Get up and have yourself baptized and your sins washed away, calling upon his name.He will then let us know his will and make us his witnesses throughout the world

May God bless us and help us to really know and accept his will in our lives

That isnt your bussiness;your bussiness is this instead

Acts 1:6-8 
When they had gathered together they asked him,
“Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”
He answered them, “It is not for you to know the times or seasons
that the Father has established by his own authority.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you,
and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem,throughout Judea and Samaria,
and to the ends of the earth.”

Lessons
When I read the scripture containing the above part,I learnt that:
1.It is not our business to know when will Jesus come back,its our duty instead to proclaim his word and be his witnesses throughout the world.
2.We will receive Power from God to do his will/his work/his assignments

My Dear,are you ready to take that challenge of minding our business of witnessing Jesus throughout the world ?We are not suppose to be afraid for it is said "you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you" so God will give us power and we will be able to do that,what is needed is our readiness to access the assignment.

Prayer
May the Lord fill us more with his Holy Spirit so that we can boldly take that assignment for the Glory of God.
May the Lord bless us as we take up that challenge of being his witnesses.

Numbers 23,24 and 25

I read Numbers chapters 23,24 and 25 and here is what i learnt:

i)God has blessed us (believers)and the blessings follow us when we remain faithful to him.When we think of the enemy  cursing us lets remember God has blessed us and  remind God of those blessings and reject the curses for it is said in 23:8 "How can I lay a curse on the one whom God has not cursed? How denounce the one whom the LORD has not denounced?"

ii)To be like Phineas (to get angry when we see sins around and to get on our knees crying for repentance for whatever we have heard or seen that defy God )God really admires that! -Oh God help me to be like Phineas!

iii)When we dont destroy evil altars around us and in us we can easily get drawn back to sining.

iv)God fights for us and help us defeat our enemies when we remain in him

Prayer:
I pray that God bless his Church as he has blessed Israel,help us to always bless Israel,to be like Phineas,help us to destroy evil altars around and in us as well as keep on fighting for us and help us defeat our enemies always.

FAILURES ALL AROUND?

Are you struggling with a certain sin/failure in your life?
Do you know there is no one to blame for whatever is going on in your life?see what this has to say

2Cor 6:11
 "We have spoken frankly to you, Corinthians; our heart is open wide.You are not constrained by us; you are constrained by your own affections."

It is what we love,do (what we are mostly attached to) that affects our lives.It is what we choose  that affect our lives and God has given us that freedom to choose so never blame God for anything for you are given freedom to choose always.

What advice is then given to you then if that is the case in your life?See what it says :

2Cor 6:1-2
"Working together,then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.* 2For he says:
“In an acceptable time* I heard you,and on the day of salvation I helped you.”
Behold, now is a very acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. "

God is telling us that there is Grace of God to help us live in a victorious way.Stop being a failure every time by saying that we humans are weak and you end up there.When you know that you are weak you need to go to the one who can give you strength who is ready  to help us as he says in the above part of the scripture In an acceptable time* I heard you,and on the day of salvation I helped you..."

The grace of God is the power to overcome sin and other things that naturally we cannot and The graces are always given to us as we pray,read the Word of God,go to church and the like.it is up to you to DECIDE TO BE VICTORIOUS in areas where you have been failing by receiving the Grace of God knowing that by your own strength you cant do anything good.

NO ENE ELSE TO BLAME,ITS YOU AND YOUR AFFECTIONS!

Decide now and your life will never be the same again!Pray to God to give you Grace to do all the Good you haven't being able to do and God will bless you abundantly!

NOTE:
We live in a world of principles created by God of principles and will be judged by God of principles,and the greatest principle is that "you reap what you have planted" so plant good by the Grace of God and you will reap good for the Glory of God,Without forgetting to keep on seeking God's Grace always as that will allow God to intervene in your life so that nothing will be able to hinder or destroy your harvests in any way!

The same ways can make someone prosper and at the same time can be a stumbling block to others!it only depends where you stand.

Stand with the Lord and his guiding ways will make you prosper.standing on the world side will make you see all that the Lord is telling you to do is not good and henceyou will fall in to the enemy's trap,BE ON YOUR GUARD ALWAYS

OBSERVING GODS DECREES AND STATUTES

Moses spoke to the people and said:
“Now, Israel, hear the statutes and decrees
which I am teaching you to observe,
that you may live, and may enter in and take possession of the land
which the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you.
Therefore, I teach you the statutes and decrees
as the LORD, my God, has commanded me,
that you may observe them in the land you are entering to occupy.
Observe them carefully,
for thus will you give evidence
of your wisdom and intelligence to the nations,
who will hear of all these statutes and say,
‘This great nation is truly a wise and intelligent people.’
For what great nation is there
that has gods so close to it as the LORD, our God, is to us
whenever we call upon him?
Or what great nation has statutes and decrees
that are as just as this whole law
which I am setting before you today? Deut 4:1,5-9

WHAT I LEARNT
when we observe God's statutes and decrees
1.we will live and can enter in the promises of God
2.be evidence of wisdom and intelligence to the nations
3.God will be very close to us when we call him

LISTENING TO AND WALKING WITH GOD


"Thus says the LORD:
This is what I commanded my people:
Listen to my voice;
then I will be your God and you shall be my people.
Walk in all the ways that I command you,
so that you may prosper."  Jer 7:23

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED FROM THE ABOVE PART OF THE SCRIPTURE
1.LISTENING TO GOD'S VOICE MAKES GOD OUR GOD
2.WALKING IN HIS WAYS GIVES US TRUE PROSPERITY

May the Lord God remove our stubborn and hardened hearts and give us a new heart that is ready to listen to him and walk happily and willingly in his ways always.
